[ARCHIVED THREAD] - How to replace flash hider?

How to hold barrel? Is there special tool to hold it in wise? How not to scratch flash hider? Thanks.

I take a rag and wrap it around the barrel, tighten in vise, turn muzzle device with wrench, if barrel moves I tighten the vise more.
Just a regular rag, a regular vise, and a wrench that fits the muzzle device nicely(wrap with tape if you dont like scratches.)

This is the best advice. I've also been at a friends house without my tools. We got by using a couple of 1" oak strips and pinning the barrel in a vice between the two pieces of wood. It worked out just fine when indexing a brake.
