I purchased a used Rock River Arms free float tube from this site a while back. I finally got around to starting my build and realized when the free float is mounted on the receiver, the stud for the sling is in the 3:00 position instead of facing down or the 6:00 position. Is it possible to put the barrel in the receiver, add a spacer on the barrel and then put the free flaot tube on to make it get tighten in a different position? Maybe someone has another idea.
Thanks, Frank |

Is that the design where the tube and nut are one piece?
Does it look like the sling mount was a DIY install? If so, it was probably drilled after installation on the previous owners rifle. Of course it's not going to line up on a new install (without a lot of luck). If you have properly torqued it and it ends up in thee o'clock, making it another 45 degrees is going to be impossible. At least you have a properly installed barrel/tube and the worst thing is you have a unused hole at three o'clock. You might be able to use the sling hole to install a small piece of rail for a light (or even a different style sling mount) then drill a new hole at six o'clock if you want a sling in that position. The spacer doesn't even sound like a good idea and it would be difficult to find the exact size to make it do what you want anyway. |

Thanks for the reply and I have to agree with you on all accounts. It is a one piece design and was probably drilled once on the receiver. Even though I have a mill and a lathe in my garage, it is still going to be very difficult to get the exact size spacer. I would be working in thousands and don't really want to waste my time. I will probably fill the hole with some jb weld and then paint a camoflage design on it since the build is for coyote hunting.
Thanks again for your input. Frank |
