I have a 16" fluted hbar upper from J&T with the generic plastic carbine length handguard and single rail gas block. I want to tighten up the groups a little and be able to use a vertical grip and a bipod. Basically I just wanted to see if there is any reason to go with the rifle length handguard over the specter. The specter seems to be long enough for what I need, plus weighs alot less than the rifle length.

I built this rifle for a 3-gun style format with a 2-7 power Nikon that is very clear inside of 25 yds, but reaching out is more important than up close for me. I do not intend to use backup iron sights. Just wanted to see if there was any reason to go rifle length.

Thanks

The rifle length looks awesome.

Other than that, maybe no huge reason. If you are going to use it with a bipod mostly the weight issue might not be a big thing. Guess it would fall to your preference.

No practical reason to go for the rifle length if you aren't using iron sights.  The big advantage you get from rifle length is longer sight radius.  You also get some more surface area to protect the gas system and you from burns.
