Just finished my first AR-15... a S&W M&P lower with DPMS A3 flattop upper. DPMS lower-receiver parts kit.  Magpul CTR and MIAD grip. I assembled it all myself. Everything fits together great and functions flawlessly except...

...the selector switch has a little too much play in it. It holds true in the 'fire' and 'safe' positions but still wiggles when touched. The switch itself also seems to be grinding a bit on the left side of the lower receiver. I compared it to the selector switch on my duty M16A4 (my only other physical point of reference), which has neither of these problems.

Any idea how to fix it? Do I need new parts or did I do something wrong in the build?

Thanks

If everything is in right and functioning,  then your selector is too short and grinding.  Also, if it's loose there is obviously not enough tension on it because: the spring is too short/bound up or the selector's diameter is too small.  Could be a combination of things.  Maybe just try to find a replacement selector.  Or you start at the cheap end and replace the spring and detent first.

My bet is out-of-spec selector though...

I've had this same problem.I changed selectors and that fixed it.I 've had several selectors to fit loose Must have been a bad run of them.

it can also be a bad detent and or spring. I had same problem and swapped out the detent/spring and fixed it right up. Not sure if it was the spring or the detent but one of them must have been slightly off spec. I ordered my replacements at midway.

Thanks all. I replaced the DPMS selector with a HI-Standard one and it did the trick. I had to cut the DPMS spring down a bit though... it was a little TOO tight.

I would check if the spring doesn't hang up on something in the hole. Also check if detent has the same profile as the receiving hole in the safety
