I just bought a 20" Bushmaster Flat-top upper assembly from EE recently to swap out with my A2 upper. I discovered that it turned out to be an H Bar.

What are the advantages of the H bar over the Gov't profile barrel that my A2 has ?

Are there any disadvantges to the H Bar besides the extra weight ? Also, does anyone know offhand how much more does an H Bar weigh over a Gov't profile barrel ?

I'm going to do target shooting and plinking with this rifle.

Thanks.

The only disadvantage is the weight.

The potential advantages may or may not offset that- in theory the barrel won't deflect as much from holds that involve a sling, and it is generally stiffer.

If you're not going to carry it around a lot, it is no big deal.  If you are, you can have the barrel recontoured to a lighter weight profile.  I have a 20" Bushy HBAR upper, and I kinda like the way the thing feels, but then again, it isn't my go-to rifle either.
