I'll be doing an upper swap from a RRA UTE2 to an A3 flat top in a few days. I'll also be installing a YHM rifle length lightweight FF. I dont have a AR wrench but I ordered the YHM FF wrench. My question is, do I have to have an AR wrench to get the old barrel nut off?

if your not worried about dicking up the old nut then no, just use some channel locks, or wrap a towl around it, then use channel locks...

i have done just about everything on an ar15 using common houshold tools, if you are carfull and think it through you can do anything

Yes. I don't think a pair of channel locks is going to get a barrel nut off like the previous poster stated.
