I'm trying to put the handguards on my first build and having one hell of a time doing so.  They are standard carbine handguards.  I don't have a tool, but the primary issue I;m having is not with the delta ring actually but getting the 2nd piece in to handguard cap.  It does seem like the delta ring is not moving completely forward on the one half that goes in properly though.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I know...get a tool.

Get a real man to do it, I did mine first time by myself, but later got a cheap tool.

On one set that I installed, you could put the second piece of the hand guard into the end cap ....... but, you could not for any reason get the delta ring to go over the end of the handguard.  So ...... what we did (yes it took two of us) was put the handguard in the delta ring first ...... then use the whole handguard as leverage to push down against the delta ring.  It work perfectly.  I think just buying a 5 dollar delta ring wrench/leverage thingie would solve your problem.

Depending on the HG's you might even have to give 'em a light sanding on the outer edge the delta ring slips over.

Also check that there is no molding flash in the groove that the barrel nut teeth have to fit into.

This turned out to be the case with a set of NOS Colt CAR HG's I bought.

Lube the delta pack up with some oil.  New delta pack, may or may NOT have some friction keeping you from being able to force it that last 1/10th of an inch to get the handgaurd to fit.

Is your hand guard cap round or square triangle? A carbine should have a round one.

is the barrel nut timed properly

LOL...yeah the barrel nut is correctly timed and the handguard/delta ring matched.

Took it to a shop/range today that builds ARs and had some of their "pros" try it –– bunch of former SpecOps guys. They couldn't get it either with or without a tool. Pulled some handguards off the sales rack and they popped right on.

Seems like the little nipples on the front part of the handguard are huge...must be cold or something...and they are the issue. Got them with a barrel kit I got from Del-Ton. Thinking of just trying to sand them down. Or should I send them back. I'm afraid their huge wait times would end up screwing me. I don't wanna wait 16 weeks for handguards.
