| I am wondering what the difference is between these 2 and how do u put a free float handrail on a ar with the snap in type already? |
|
With the free float you won't have things such as bipods, sling mounts, etc changing your point of impact, because the tube, rather than the barrel, will be taking all the pressure.
What you'll need to mount a free float depends on which one you choose. Some are easier to mount than others. |
| Some free floating rail systems must have the FSB, and consequently the barrel nut removed. PITA IMO. They are secure for sure, but with Daniel Defense coming out with Omega FF handguards you won't have that issue. A 2 piece rail system that uses the front handguard cap will still put pressure on your barrel, which may cause a major malfunction after several hundred rounds of shooting causing the barrel to move. I would keep as little weight off the barrel as possible, so I cut my FSB down to a lo-profile gas block and shaved the bayonet lug and sling swivel off and installed a 12" Troy MRF-R rail system. Had to lose the delta ring too, but the system gives me an uninterupted rail platform and a removeable bottom rail too. I'm not saying you should do that to your rifle, but it's what i wanted with mine. longer sight radius, and room for a bipod too. Waiting on a few stores to call me with availability of an LMT removeable front sight. |
