Well, I'm starting to get some parts coming in for my first build, and already at step #1 I'm running into questions

I've searched to no avail and I looked through the assembly guides, but I'm not finding what I'm looking for.

I got an upper assembly from Bravo, and the BCG was in the box in a seperate baggy, and there is a very small o-ring in that baggy.  It looks like it is supposed to fit right over the gas tube that is exposed in the upper, but looking at it I'm not so sure that is where it is supposed to go (as I don't see how it would really seal anything).  Does it go there?  Or somewhere else?  Or is it a spare for one that is already installed elsewhere?

Thanks,
Patrick

It goes around the extractor spring

Ah, ok, I see where it goes now.  Thanks!

Now is it likely to be a spare?  Or do I need to take the bolt apart and get it in there?  I've got the bolt out now, but before I mess with tapping the retaining pin out of the extractor, I'd like to know if I really need to do this or not.

You might as well field strip the bolt and carrier, remove the extractor, and check for the o-ring. Your going to have to take the bolt apart at some point, and now is as good as any.

If you need any help with the field strip, just let me know.

You should not 'need' this o-ring for your gun to function properly.

Guys that require them are usually having other issues causing their extraction problems and use the o-ring as a 'bandaid fix' because they couldn't fix the real problem.

You will not find one of these o-rings on a COLT or other properly built/tuned rifle...

In fact I just had to remove mine to get my 14.5 to run. I put it in the spare parts container as I am sure it will remedy a worn out extractor spring.
