my uncle just finished up with his first ar15, and we took it out shooting yesterday...it ran fine for about 10 rounds and then when it went to put another round in battery, the bolt stuck half way open. we could not pull the charging handle back as it wouldnt budge. the only way to get it to release was to slam the butt on the ground really hard, and then it would go into battery.
pull it apart, the bolt and carrier are fine, the upper reciever is fine, no burs or anything that it could get stuck on. put it back together and it ran fine again for 10-15 rounds and did the same thing.. thought it might be a magazine problem or ammo, but after running 6 different magazines and 4 different ammo types, it was still consistently messing up.... ive built several and have never had a problem like this and im somewhat confused as to what could possibly be causing this. any help would be appreciated |

What exactly is it doing, FTF, FTE etc. How was it built? Did you buy a complete upper and assembled a lower with a LPK. Or was this a complete build ( you assembled the upper and lower) I would start with separating the upper from the lower, pull the charging handle back and forth, see if there is any access friction in the movement of the BCG. See if the carrier key aligns smoothly with the gas tube. Clean and lube well and reinstall on lower. Next I would inspect the lower, make sure the hammer spring is installed correctly. The hammer may bind up causing an issue with the movement of the BCG. Which may cause a FTE or FTF. |

its extracting, snd ejecting fine, but when the bolt starts to close, it binds up. when it stops, you can see about 3/16th of the shell going into battery. its just weird because itll run fine for 10-15 rounds and then boom, it jams. pulling on the charging handle wont break it free. you have to slam the buttstock hard
the upper was alreadt assembled and the bolt is from model 1. the trigger is a jard so i dontr think the hammer has anything to do with it. |
| What type of ammo are you/were you using? The reason I ask is I had a similar problem with the steel cases made by Wolf. Brass cases feed and fired fine. Steel is not as forgiving as brass. I had my chamber polished by Steve at Troy Industries and have not had a problem with Wolf ammo since. |
