I recently built (assembled) my first AR. I have a couple hundred rounds through it. It is a cmmg mid length. I just speced the standard BCG, bolt and firing pin. For continued reliability I was wondering if I should replace it. And if so, with what.
Yesterday I was on the range and had two FTF. Hammer seemed to drop, but no bang. No primer strike on either rounds. Found a primer that had fallen down into my trigger group. Removed it, no further problems. Had me worried though. Got me to thinking about an article I read that mentioned that CMMG doesn't shot peen or MPI the BCG. Or does them randomly (the MPI). Any thoughts? |

Shot Peening and MPI testing are overrated, You should not worry about that in an Civilian AR that will never see full auto or the dumping of 300+ rounds in a 4 minute firefight. Sure its nice to have, but not needed at all. CMMG makes quality parts, i would stick with what you got. Also, the hammer dropping and no failure to fire could be just a dud round and happens kinda often. I would suspect this considering the fact that you said a primer fell out of one of your rounds. |
