OK, so I'm 99% done on an AR build.  Last thing in the way is attaching, more so, aligning the FH.  Trying to align a YHM 5C1 FH on a 16" CAR.  With the crush washer in place, I can only get it to where it is a quarter turn from properly aligned, when hand tightened.  Am I going to be able to get the last quarter turn out of the compressing crush washer?  Or do I need to consider a peal washer?

No help here ?  Can't believe no one else has ever run into the same issue.

I'm going to give you my opinion, and its only from personal experience, years ago i used to be able to crush a washer with no problem, but lately the last zillon crush washers seem to be made of uncrushium, so i changed to peel and never looked back...One more thing, actually 2, one is i tried to crush it in a vise, with a hammer and they didn't crush, and i bought them from several manufacturers, 2 when i was determined to get it crushed the accuracy suffered, to me it was no different than overtorquing it at the breach end....

I tighten and loosen then repeat until I get close to perfect timing.  This way, I slowly crush the washer without ending up with a ton of stress on the end of the barrel.

Just past hand tight is where I like to be.

While I haven't tried it personally, I've read on this site of guys lapping the crush washer with a carborundum stone to make them thinner. It stands to reason that this would work fine.

I also use peel washers. Just past hand tight is the way to go. Cranking a muzzle device too tight can be bad for accuracy.

1/4 turn should be no problem.
