Planning my first build and need a tutorial on barrels. I know I want a 16" chrome lined 1:7. I've learned M4 feed ramps are nice but not essential. After that I get lost in terminology.
Profiles? I've heard of pencil, gov't, and a few others. I've seen references to SAW barrels and 203 barrels. What's what? Gas systems? Shorty, Mid length, carbine etc. My goal is pretty much a home grown M4ergry working class rifle not a $2000+ SuperForcesNinjaSealTeam46 Tactical Assault Weapons System. So what do I need/not need? Thanks. Gimlet |

Unless you are trying to build a super-lightweight rifle, you will probably be happiest with a chrome-lined, medium-profile barrel.
Here's what I prefer. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=38&t=166115 |

Its sounds like this one post helped two of us. |
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid-16.htm Follow the directions. Quote from Paul: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=138&t=162419 Edited to add DATE: 11/23/08 **** Continuous spurts is probably the best way to describe production. We have a large amount of 16" middys and 16" M4 currently in various stages of production. (hoping for 11.5" very late in 2008 or early 2009?) (ETA on 14.5" is Q2 or Q3 2009) (ETA on 20" gove is Q2 or Q3 2009) Each time the upper groups go online, they will sell out rather quickly. Generally speaking, more will go online every 2-5 weeks. If you want to be notified the very minute they are ready, please click the "Email me when back in stock" link on the appropriate webpage for the product you are interested in. It is just under the "Add to Cart" button. Thank you VERY much for your interst in the BCM products!! Paul BCM Update 12/17/08 Still hoping to put a batch of 16' Mid online during Dec. It is looking more difficult. There is a massive shortage of small parts that are slowing up production. (11.5" Feb or March 2009?) (ETA on 14.5" is Q3 2009) (ETA on 20" gove is Q3 2009) I'm going for my second one. |
