I was ready to order a Magpul PRS stock, but now not so sure. I will be shooting off a bench, and want to make sure that the scope height, eye relief, and stock fit are all ergonomically correct. Check this picture.
http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek090.html Note the low scope, use of A2 stock, and where the shooter's cheek is. If the stock was the PRS, his cheek would be almost off the front of the PRS height adjustment. The scope could always be pulled rearward, forcing the shooter's cheek back on to the PRS height adjustment, but then that would tend to pull the stock away from his shoulder. I know the PRS can be lengthened, but really wondering how suitable the PRS is for this kind of shooting. I like the appearance of the PRS, and these kinds of stocks, but maybe it is not the best setup for bench shooting. ??? - Phil |
| IMO that guy has his scope too low, but hay this is American and you can cook a chicken many ways. That just looks uncomfortable, plus if you look close it doesn't look as if he is actually look through the scope, more like along side of it. It would seem with that setup you will have to seriously cant your head/neck to the side. Also it would appear that the back half of scope is actually resting on his rail which is bad Juju. YMMV |

Phil, you're wise to pass on the PRS. I had one and ran into the same issues you're observing. The cheek rest is WAY too far back on the PRS and forces you to scrunch your neck back and makes for an uncomfortable head position.
"That Guy" is Robert Whitley, who has likely forgotten more about precision shooting than most of us will ever know, so i doubt he's made any errors mounting his scope. |

The position of the cheek piece on a PRS has always been a limitation. Since you need access to the charging handle (on most AR's), the cheek piece can not be any further forward. If you are a nose to the charging handle shooter–– like they train in the military, you are gonna be way out in front of the cheek piece on the PRS. I had one, and with the scope mounted as low as I could, I didn't need any height from the cheek piece, so it made no diff.
My thought it that is if you mount the scope properly, you should not need any height adjustment. There are lots of stocks to choose from. Look at this one I think it would make a good bench stock. |
