I have started on another build and for the first time I have assembled a lower parts kit on a lower. When doing a function test it seems the hammer goes too far back as it will not fire. If you cycle it from fire to saftey the hammer will click forward a notch and then it will fire after moving it back to the fire postion. So what did i do wrong

Sounds like a disconnector issue. Check it for proper installation, check the spring (it goes in fat end down), and see if there are any burrs. Lastly check your trigger spring. Something related to the disconnector is preventing your trigger from going forward. When you move the safety to "safe" then back to "fire" you're essentially just pushing the trigger forward manually.

Check the function with the upper off....cock the hammer, take safe off, hold hammer and pull trigger......if hammer releases then continue hold trigger and recock hammer to see if the disconnector catches it.....then release trigger and see if primary sear catches it.

Make sure you hold and guide the hammer, as you don't want to let it hit the bolt catch/receiver with direct spring force which could cause bending issues.
