Disclaimer: First post here - Newbie. I carried an M16A1 when in the USAR so I'm slightly familiar with the AR platform.
I bought at DD Omega handguard for my Colt and the guy at the gunshow booth installed it for me which was great. When I got it home I wanted to put a couple of the rail covers on. They are the Ladder style. The rail ladders are stiff plastic/polymer and do not seem to want to slide over the ends of the handguard rail. Snapping them into place also seems questionable due to their stiffness. Searching posts here, the DD website and reading all the instructions offered no clue. Do the rail ladders have to be installed before installing the handguard? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks |
| I've been using ladders by Magpul (can't speak for others). I start with the very end of the ladder and snap one corner it in place over the rail, then the other corner. Then, I just continue along the ladder pushing it over the rail until I get to the other end. Very easy. Getting them off is kind of the same thing in reverse: Using a flat screwdriver (VERY carefully to avoid scratching the rail), I lift one corner of one end of the ladder off the rail. Once you get both corners of one end off the rail, the ladder just "peels" off. |

The ladders are going to be a pain to get on and off until they are broken in.
They don't slide on the end, they snap on. Just start and one end, and then work your way to the other end. I prefer rail panels my self, they provide more protection to the rail, and more protection from heat to the hand. |
