Im trying to add a larue 12" rail on my bushmaster predator upper. Im having problems taking off the stock free floating tube. I took off the gas block as well as the gas tube. Now im lost. Ive tried to twist it off, but its not giving and im not sure i really want to wrench on it. Am i missing or skipping a step, or do i need to put some muscle into it?

My brother in law has a Bushmaster varmint upper and it was a bear to get the factory installed free float tube off it.

Secure it in a good upper receiver vise bock, throw a strap wrench around it and pull.  When it doesn't move, pull harder.  Repeat as necessary, it will come off but will not be easy.

ETA:  Put the strap wrench as close to the upper receiver as possible but not so close that is grips the float tube and the locking ring at the same time.

Should come off when you twist counterclockwise as you look toward the receiver from the muzzle end.  Put that upper in a vice block and give it some elbow grease.  If that doesn't work, use a strap wrench.  I've had some that we're really really on there.
