heres the situation, my smith put on my freefloat, but was unable to put on the end cap, YHM, because they send me the wrong one, the one for the small barrel, not the hbar.  So when I get the right sized end cap I would like to put it on my self.  Could someone walk me throu the steps.  I need to know stuff like, how heavy to torque the flash hider, how to take it off, which way the pins come out, when i pull the fsb off, do i keep the gas tube installed?  Thanks in advance.

The easiest way to do it is probably to removed
the FSB and Flash Hider, I'm going to assume you've got the standard
FSB and the A2 flash hider. It's preferable to put the barrel in a
barrel clamp when working with the flash hider. There are numerous ways
you can jerry-rig something at home to do this with. The flash hider
requires a crush washer. Usually this is only meant to be used once,
but I've sometimes used old ones before just fine; or buy a new one for
$2. The crush washer allows you to align the flash hider to it's
original position. The front sight base it attached to the barrel with
two pins that fit into small channels cut into the bottom of the
barrel. These pins are usually tapered and go in and out through one
side only. Double check on the pins, cause some companies use
non-tapered pins. Also some manufacturers will flatten out the smaller
end with a hammer to lock everything together in which case a dremel
will quickly fix that. Punch out the pins and pull the FSB off the
barrel; the gas tube should pull out with it since it's pinned to it,
and shouldn't need to be removed. Install the end cap into it's correct
position, replace the FSB, align the pin holes with the channels in the
barrel and punch the pins back in. Put the new crush washer on and
tighten the flash hider until it indexes to it's original position.
Brownells has some instructional videos that should cover this stuff in one part or another.

The only other thing I would recommend is make sure you use the proper punch to remove the pins for the FSB.  One that is too small will crater the pins and actually enlarge the end of the pin making it difficult to fit through (as well as ruin the pin for re-installation).

also, pay close attention to the alignment of the gas holes.  Misalignment can cause functioning problems
