The pistol grip on my AR has a bit of wiggle.  I was wondering how much I can torque the grip screw.  I don't want to strip the threads out of the lower.

You can put a washer on the grip screw to help that situation.

Up to 6 lb./ft. of torque will be just fine, but you should not need that much to get the grip tight.

The grip wasn't seated correctly.  I pulled it off and reinstalled it and its all good.
