I ordered a del-ton kit last Friday. They've informed me that the chrome bolt/carriers are backordered at the moment and they don't know when they'll be in. What's the value in this part? I figured it may last longer than a standard setup, be more reliable and easier to clean, and would be better if the SHTF.

You pretty much hit on it. Chrome carriers aren't necessarily "easier" to clean, but it's much easier to tell when they are dirty.

They might run a little smoother, but a milspec carrier that works itself into a rifle does pretty well too IMO. Nice, but most definitely not needed.
