I read on a different post that you need sizes #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 for an AR build.  I went to the store and they mark them in inches, so what size punches do I need that are standard measurment?  Thanks

Buy a set of Craftsman small punches at Sears. You will only use some of them but it would be just as expensive to buy them seperately. I do not remember the specific sizes as I usually just pick the one that looks like it will work properly. Sorry if I am too vague.

That said you don't really NEED any special tools for the lower. You should be able to make do with a basic set of tools that any homeowner should have on hand. The special tools just make things easier.

YMMV

I bought a 3 pack of stanley nail sets from wal-mart. They were $7. My AR build went nice and smooth

I like Starrett punches.  The one I use most is 1/16"
