Is there any major difference between a Military M4 Profile 16" 4150 steel barrel and a Heavy Barrel 16" 4150 steel barrel when it comes to heat distortion/dispersal and flex/whip? Thanks |
The LW M4 gets rid of heat faster (not as much metal to hold it), but, could not take as much heat , I.E. sustained rates of fire. Not a worry unless you are planning on dumping LARGE amounts of ammo, in very short periods of time. As far as flex/whip, all barrels do it, accuracy depends on the barrel RETURNING to the same resting state, so there is no way to say one will do that better than the other, due to unforeseen stress levels in the barrel. So, no need to fret it. Bottom line, get the one you like best and shoot it. |

Theoretically, the straight, heavy barrel should be stiffer and less likely to flex during firing. The reduced diameter section on the M4 barrel for the M203 launcher actually introduces a "weaker" section in the barrel which provides less stiffness. If you are dumping large amounts of ammo very quickly, this won't make any difference because you won't be hitting anything accurately anyway. As far as heat rejection, both are probably similar. Lets face it....we tend to choose the M4 profile because its "tacticool" in appearance. How many civilians own, attach, and use an M203? Very few indeed. |
