Hey there y'all!

This maybe a stupid question, but I'm totally new to the AR15 and have never done anything like this, but I'm going to try and build my first AR- for predator control on the ranch I work for. So, please bear with my "newbie"questions!

Since I'm going to have order a lower, I know I need a FFL to receive it from whoever I buy it from. But, HOW do I find one and what should I ask them? Do I just go to the nearest gun store and ask them if they'll accept receipt of an AR15 part I'm ordering and ask them what they'll charge?  Is this a common request?  What should I expect to pay them for this service?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have any gunshops in your town? Where do you live?

Thats the way to do it. Most gun shops will. I typically pay $25.00 for a transfer but they may charge a bit more or less. Doesn't hurt to shop around a bit. Depends on your state whether they charge for background check or not.

Gunbroker has a list by Zipcode of FFL's who will do transfers for a fee.

There are usually plenty of FFLs in Texas towns, and typically you'll be able to find one that will charge less than $30 to handle the receiving and paperwork.  Here in San Antonio, there are tons of FFLs that do it.  I use the Bullet Hole Range folks; they charge $20 (last time I used them) to receive any regular firearm.

Welcome aboard!

Yes, stop into any gunstore you find and just ask them. Shop around for the best transfer rate/fee. Sometimes the owner will be a real dick about how it cuts into his business and such. Just move on to the next guy. BTW, most pawnshops won't give you crap about transferring stuff in as they aren't usually stocking dealers. And a lot of times have the cheaper transfer rates.

I'm in Austin about half of the month and Sabinal (near Uvalde) the rest of the month.

Where in Austin?  When I lived in South Austin, I used to like doing business with TexGuns on Manchaca...  They charge $25 for receiving items for customers (it's listed on their "About Us" page).

Action Pawn has eight locations in the Austin/Round Rock area and charges $20 for transfers.
TexGuns are good people, I've done business with them for many years.
Some dealers in Austin want to charge $45 for transfers...that's way too much IMO.
