[ARCHIVED THREAD] - M-4 upper with longer barrel

I'm still doing research while preparing for my first build, can you help answer a silly question?

Is the only difference between the M-4 and carbine upper the indented feed ramp? Can any receiver be used for any barrel length as long as the barrel extension has the matching cuts?

I know there is some question as to how much help the M-4 ramp cuts are in the non-full auto world; but I don’t think they can be any harm, and I am way too familiar with Mr. Murphy, so I’d like to build a 16 inch mid-length with the M-4 ramps. Any suggestions on a forged upper with M-4 ramps?

you can use any upper for any barrel you wish. you can even use a barrel with the m4 cuts with a standard upper, but not the other way around.

Thanks that’s what I thought. Now where to find a nice forged M4 upper and 16 barrel with corresponding cuts – Suggestions?
