Hey guys.  I have a full dpms lower that needs an upper.  I'm new the ar15 world and this is my first.  I was going to build my lower, but decided on the dpms lower when I saw such a good deal on it at my local shop.  I was looking at rock river's site, but I don't see much difference in the uppers.  What is the difference between a "tactical", "CAR" and others.  I see some differences, but I'm just wondering.  Also, will th finishes match on my upper and lower?

What is your budget, and what do you want to do with it?

I also have a DPMS lower which I bought from a local dealer also for the same reason with my first AR as well.  I actually went with a Del-Ton upper since the deal was good, they customize it, and they have a good reputation.  You should really use the search function to research different companies that interest you...

In fact, you should click on some of the manufacturer buttons listed above the menu buttons...those are all pretty good, and it gives you a chance to research and compare.

Also, your upper is going to depend on a couple of things like how long do you want te barrel, what kind of ammo will you be shooting through it, is gun for plinking, fun, hunting, life saving, etc, your budget for this project, etc.

Also, if you can answer some of these questions for us, people will be more able to help you in the direction of your new upper!!

Anyway, let me get you started...Del-Ton and CMMG

These are two companies which are pretty good from what I've read.  Check them out, and let us know if you have any other questions.  Btw, I'm no expert, but there are plenty of people here that are...

How do Mega uppers compare to the BCM and LMT? I have built on a Mega lower and it was a nice piece, now I'm looking at building another rifle and have easy access to Mega products.

I don't believe Mega sells complete uppers, but I could be wrong.

thanks, guys.  Sorry I didn't give more info.  I'm going 16" barrel and I just want a quality upper.  I'm not too concerned on cost, b/c I'm looking for reliability.  I'm really looking at rock river mid length.  I know the pros/cons of the mid length, but I feel that mid length would work.  Should I just go fixed sight?  I'll use it for target and a possible patrol rifle down the road, so some tactical usage will be required.

Oh, and I did educate myself on the diff. uppers.  I'm going a2 removable carry handle with mid length gas/handguard setup.

If you want a 16" midlength (which is an excellent choice, compared to a 16" carbine), and you want quality, you should buy this upper:

02b5218.netsolstores.com/bravoco16inchmidlenghtgasupper.aspx

You'll need to buy a charging handle, bolt carrier group, and handguards as well, but in the end it will be worth it.

Here's the complete upper:

02b5218.netsolstores.com/bravocomfg16inchgovtprofilem4upper-1-1.aspx

I've been waiting 2 years, and they are finally in production again.

Unless you buy a RRA "lightweight" midlength, you will end up with a heavy barrel, which makes for an ungainly weapon, in my opinion.

Iron sights are just fine, optics are better, but if you master irons, you will be a better shooter with an optic, and better than someone who just buys an optic and thinks that makes them a hardcore shooter.

+1 for what 87GN said. You can buy cheaper, but you'd have a hard time finding a better upper.

I've never seen this company before?  Pretty good track record?  Are they used a lot by guys on here?

I'm pumped about my little rifle I can call mine, so the more options, the better.

Bravo Company, the manufacturer, has a stellar record.

Denny's, the dealer, also has a large following, and for good reason.
