I live in MA and can't have a collapsible stock. I already bought one and also just like the way they look. Anybody know a good way to pin it or make it perminate at one location?
Thanks in advance.

My advice is to buy a pre-ban lower on the E&E and put the stock on the pre-ban lower. That way you don't have to ruin a perfectly good stock.

Otherwise I think it has to be permaneant. Drill a hole, put a pin in it have it welded over or buy a MA legal one that isn't movable.

Buy a $500+ lower so you don't ruin a $40 part?

Anyway... tag for process.  I'd like to know how to pin a stock in a certain position (not fully extended) for the future.

I have several POST-BAN CAR stocks and I will trade you yours for mine.  I have both the original as well as the newer ribbed style.  The ones I have came off of Bushmaster AR-15s that I bought after the ban and I restocked them with CAR stocks but the ones I have look like new.  Let me know if you are interested and confirm which type you have and I will trade like for like.  I have several if several people are interested.  Just send me a PM and I will try to count just how many I have.

Also, it would be easier to modify a NON-CAR stock to a shorter possition then to pin a real CAR stock.  With the fake CAR stocks there is just a threaded hole in the buffer tube with a small bolt that holds it in place.  You could drill and tap additional holes to allow the length to be adjusted.

Now, depending on the type of buffer tube, you may run into issues as some of the fake CAR stocks were "rifle length" holes in the bugger tube while others, like most every Bushmaster I had seen, were "carbine" length.  This matters as for a shorter configuration you may want to cut off some of the extra steel on the back of the fake car buffer tube.  I never did one like that but that is the basic process that would be needed for the fake CARs.  So, for a shorter tube, then pinning a real CAR would likely be easier then modifying a fake one.

Hope that helps a little.  As I said, I have these stocks if you want to trade.

It's not that difficult to pin a stock if you want to. You will need a drill, drill bit, roll pin, and some epoxy/jbweld.

Basically decide if you want 1 or 2 roll pins to hold it. Pick the pins up from the local hardware store. Make sure you get ones that are long enough to pass through to both sides of the stock. I don't recall the exact size of roll pin. Longer is not a problem because you can cut it shorter.

Set the stock to the length you want. Drill the hole/s through the stock and the extension. Be sure to drill through the rib that runs along the bottom of the extension. Not through the tube that the buffer and spring are in.

Set the pins in place. Make sure that the pins are countersunk on both sides. You may have to trim some length off the pin at this point.

Once the pins are set, mix your epoxy/jbweld and apply into the holes and lvl it out.

I was being sarcastic. Having the pre-ban enables all the evil fatures.
