I am new to the AR 15 world and am going to start my first build.  From talking to some firends and reading this forum I think I want to use a Stag 1H upper and build the lower with stag parts.

I am interested in your thoughts as well as any good vendors.

thanx for the help

Stag would be a good way to go.

What is your budget?

What I want is a 16in barrel with a3 upper fixed front sights and a removable a2 style carry handle.  preferably a rail system for the hand grips.

I want to spend under $800.

and the stag set up seems to be quality parts for a decent price.  I also want to keep the build somewhat simple because it is my first.  I plan on buying a stripped lower but a complete upper.

thanx for any help/suggestions

Well if you want to spend under $800, you'll be able to build a Stag rifle the way you described, and you might afford a cheap railed handguard, but you wouldn't have any money left over to put anything worthwhile on the rails, so you might as well save your money for now.

I'd recommend spending that extra money on ammo, mags, or training. You'd be much more effective with the weapon if you got some good training vs. having a rifle with doodads on the rails and no training.

I am planning on waiting for the rail system. but that is the direction I want to go.

Any reccomendation on vendors?  I live in oklahoma city if that makes a difference, but I just joined a gun club and can get good deals on FFL transfers.  but havn't found any good shops in town that deal in ARs.

That's exactly what I did and stuck a Noveske upper on it and am perfectly happy with the rifle.  Now I just need to get out to shoot that dang thing...

Model 2H upper from ar15sales.com $490 shipped with a BUIS. Can't get better then that bro. Though, as I look back, I wish I would of gone with LMT. Not that my stag hasn't been great. At the time I was strapped for cash and for the price, this was a GREAT deal. Glad i chose stag over the others along the same lines of quality. Stag measures up.  Altogether this cost me 765$ for the basic rifle and less then $1300 for it all not including the m261 .22 kit.

stag model 2h upper and RRA lower.

Stag is a great choice. Keep your first build simple. Read lots on ar-15 and your next build will be more practical and suited to your type of shooting. Stay away from bargain basement parts. Usually you get what you pay for.

I agree, Stag is a great choice. Nothing bad about them. The most for your money....<><....:)

Check out the group buy section in the EE. Legal Transfers has a complete stag kit minus the lower for $600. You can find stripped lowers for $100-$250. Aim has double srar lowers for $100. pete will upgrade your parts kit with a RRA 2 stage trigger which works pretty well. I built up a tag lower with a RRa LPK with the 2 stage trigger, an A2 stock, and a RRamiddie pencil barrel upper which I like alot. I'd post pics if I knew how.

You can also get a Stag lower from Pete for a great price. I have gotten one from him and plan on getting at least a couple more from him, plus associated parts, LPK's, etc.....<><....:)
