I'm looking at building an AR-10. I can put together the lower with the standard trigger and just wait until I can get a geissel trigger. But when It comes to building the upper I don't really know where to go. I plan on using it for hunting so I want accuracy out to 300. Should I go with a 18-20in or get something bigger? I need to know a good place to pick up  good barrel threaded with muzzle break. Is there a better gas system available? If I plan on using a scope should I go with the gas buster charging handle? I was wanting to know if there are any bcg better than the stock ones from Armalite and where the best place to pick one up would be? Also I need a good free float rail or tube, I only want to mount a front grip and maybe a bipod, so Is there a light tube with a rail just on the bottom?

I recommend keeping it simple, but it depends on what your smithing skills are and whether you feel comfortable building piece by piece.

Personally, I would roll with a 20" midweight free floated barrel.

This isn't free floated yet, but it will be, most likely a Daniel Defense or PRI.  PRI is probably in line with what you want, as it isn't covered in rails.

I don't use gas buster on any ARs.

An Armalite upper sale is probably going to happen in Oct-Nov on Armalite's homepage where you can pick up an upper in the $550 range.

I would recommend buying the upper and add the handguards, vs building from scratch.  It's not going to be much cheaper to build from scratch.

Check this out for a free float handguard:

Just bought the AR 15 middy version for my 6.8 SPC and overall am very impressed by it.  It lets you add rails and swivel studs only where you want them.  It is wicked light too.  I figured, when first looking at it, that it was probably going to be heavy, but it was not.  This one you will want to build the upper from scratch for because the method it uses to mount on the upper is a bit unusual.

Do you know the weight of the daniels defense or the pri rails? Also where is a good place to get a barrel?

Does Armalite always go onsale in Oct-Nov? Does anyone know how much the Daniels Defense and PRI rails weigh?

They tend to have sale around thanksgiving and Christmas, IIRC.  I bought my stainless upper last year for $550 or $575 last year.

If you monitor their threads in the industry section here, you will get a heads up on when they go on sale.

Armalite has an Eagle Arms upper on sale as a web special right now on their home site.

I delayed buying one  each Noveske and Eagle Arms AR10 stripped lowers at the El Paso gun show today, but I'll probably pick them up at the next show.

if you play your cards right, you can build an AR10 for about the same price as an AR15.

The first one I bought compete was $1300, I went on to build a second for less than $800.  You just have to wait for stuff to go on sale.
