i get to pickup my lower on friday. is there anything i should do before i install the lower parts kit? any prep work?

I spray mine down with non-clorinated brake cleaner, gets all the grease/oil off in a snap.

Exactly.  

Degrease with brake cleaner to remove what was applied at the manufacturer, then apply a light coat of CLP.

Soaking the lower in CLP serves no purpose. It’ll only waste CLP and make a mess. De-grease and cover in a light film of CLP. I like to use a cheap paint brush followed by a wipe down with a black t-shirt.

Make sure all the tapped and machined holes are free of burrs or any junk left behind.

I keep a 2" paintbrush on the top shelf in my safe, after cleaning a firearm, you can dab the paintbrush all around the exterior and it spreads a "LITTLE" clp all over very nicely!
