Okay, I just realized that my hand guards are not the problem. I assumed it was the lack of tension that was the reason behind the Surefire rail having a small amount of play in it. I took the guards off today and realized the barrel itself has play in it. Looking over the "Build it yourself" thread and some other on line resources, it would appear the barrel has a tab that aligns tight in to the receiver to align the barrel to it. Then the locking ring tightens it all down. Sinse I have play in the barrel, should I assume the barrel is toast? Is there any movement in the barrel and this is just a case of the locking nut not being tight enough? This upper is a Stag-15 Model 2H Pre-Ban from a vendor on here. It's not their fault, as I realize they drop ship direct from STAG. I have resolved to just buy the block and armor's tool and take care of this myself. Would this the be smartest thing to do? I'm mechanically inclined enough, just want to make sure this isn't a bigger issue than just tightening down the barrel nut. |

I agree, if it came like that let the origional manufacturer deal with it. But to touch on your origional question, just because the barrel is loose it may not be junk. Odds are the barrel nut was not properly tourqued and the nut came loose. Don't bother spending decent cash on tools to fix a problem the manufacturer should be taking care of (unless, of course, you really want to get into building AR's....which is very addicting! Brian |
