| Hey guys I just bought a barrel off the EE and I have to perm attach a flash hider for legality.I have a phantom but I kinda like the a1 hider as it's an a1 upper. My question is I found if I put 2 crush washers on the a1 hider is exactly 16 inches.does anybody see any problems with this before I send it off to be perm attached? |

If the barrel itself is less than 16" w/out a perm FH already installed to bring it to 16" then screwing on an non-perm A1 or A2 length FH with a couple of crush washers will not make it legal. There would be no point in doing what you're asking about before its sent off for perm FH install. What's the hold up in sending the barrel off for perm FH install? The hole point of a <16" with perm FH is to make it legal. ETA: I just re-read your OP. Are you asking about having the A1 perm attached with the two crush washers behind it to keep the look? If that is the case then I'm not sure but I would assume that it would work. Sorry for the confusion of my first post if that's not what you were asking. |
| Since there's no need to index either the A1 3-prong or the A1 birdcage flash suppressors I wouldn't use the crush washers. If you're doing the birdcage I'd use one of the extended models made for 14.5" barrels. They're cheap and look good. If you're going 3-prong I haven't seen any extended ones advertised. In that case I think I'd have a little spacer made. IMO the 2 crush washers would likely look hokey. Of course, given that they are tapered, they may line up OK. I'd ask the guys at ADCO how they would do it then go from there. |
| Warpig, I am going to get the hider perm attached I was just wanted to make sure the 2 crush washers stacked wouldn't cause any unforseen problems I know it may be a silly question but we are talking permanently attached.Bushflyer it's the a1 birdcage and no it doesn't look hokey.Unless you really look ,you can't tell. |

Sabre Defense makes an extended A2 that will bring your build to the legal length. I know it's not what you asked but it's worth checking out. |

What is the width of two crush washers placed against each other? Use a caliper to meaure. Must be over .200" This is why you see 14.7" barrels with A1-A2 FH perm mounted. A 14.5" barrel needs to make-up that .200". If you are using a tape measure, hung over the end of the barrel breach, and measuring to the end of the FH, you must *subtract* 3/8" for bolt face intrusion into the barrel extention. If you are using a dowel rod in the barrel, with bolt forward, no subtraction is needed. |
