So I just purchased a Del-Ton M4 barrel and asked them a question about the threads on their M4 barrels and they said its a 1/2"x36. Is this an odd size? Will a stardard 1/2"x28 flash hider fit on this barrel? Is there a way to count the threads to make sure its a 1/2"x36?

FH thread pitch on 5.56mm/.223 barrels should be all standard. Don’t know of anyone off the top of my head who uses non-standard thread pitch.

I think someone at Del-Ton is mistaken - 1/2"x36 is normally reserved for 9mm and 7.62x39 barrels/flash hiders.

See thats what I think cause like what you said its normally for 9mm and 7.62x39. But how would I find out just to be sure?

Just make sure the FH you order is for a 5.56mm/.223 barrel.

ETA: If your barrel is a standard run-of-the-mill M4 barrel, then a standard FH designed for the A1/A2 will fit.

Get yourself a thread pitch/inch gauge.

Hmm, the normal thread pitch for the 5.56 barrels is 1/2" x 28.  The only barrels that we have that are 1/2" x 36 are the 7.62 x39, 300 Fireball, & the 6.8.  They must have understood what you were asking about.

Sorry for the confusion

Measure 1/2 inch on the threads and then count the tops of threaded area, multiply it by two and that should be the X28 or X36 count per inch, crude but should give you a better idea of what you are dealing with.  The 1/2 is the diameter across.
