I am trying to remove my fsb to put on a folding one..........
I followed the tutorial I found here, but i cannot get the 2 pins out.
I measured the pins, and the small side was on the right (stag upper) but I have been whacking on the pins with a 1/4 inch punch and a hammer and they just wont budge!!

Is there a way to dremel this off?
Whoever wrote the tutorial said he had to dremel one off, but i didnt see a procedure on exactly how to do it without screwing up my barrel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

I have seen it where you have to hit the left side out, from looking down the barrel...give that a try?

And they say it needs to be a good whack on it to loosen them...tapping wont cut it...

Ensure your working on a good solid surface. A flimsy table or work bench will only absorb your hammers energy instead of transferring it to the punch and on into the taper pin.

You might find that a nail punch works better than a pin punch for initially knocking the taper pins loose. The cupped end of the nail set will fit over the taper pin preventing the punch from slipping off under the impact of the hammer.

Support directly underneath the FSB with a block of wood and your barrel will be fine.

Taper pins, once they start to loosen, will come right out.  Dowel pins (like on my RRA) take more effort but are not a problem.  Like QUIB says, support DIRECTLY UNDER the FSB while you're pounding on the punch, and make sure your work surface is sturdy and not bouncing all over the place.  It should work just fine, but it may take more "oomph" than you think you'll need to get the pins moving, thus the need for solid support.

What weight of hammer are you using?  This is not a place to use some little jewelers hammer!  Whack the crap out of it with a 2 - 3lb hammer.  Also, use a steel punch.  you probably want to tape aggressively around the pin to avoid scratching.  Start with a tap and gradually increase to a solid whack.  You just want to make sure you can control your punch.  Sometimes an oversized heavy brass drift is just the thing to get the first few thousandths of movement.  Also, us a bench block or wood block for support.  Nothing should move when you really whack it, except the pin.
