i just bought a doublestar lower, and i ran into a few companies that are making 7.62x39 uppers, anyone have, or shoot this config? Model 1 sales has a 20" standard 7.62 upper that is a pretty good price, any other companies have this kit, what i really want is a 20"-24" bull barrel kit, but i cant seem to find anyone that sells one? thanks ken |
Their 20" standard 7.62 upper rocks. Mine functions perfectly & is way more accurate than my old SKS ever was. MLG |

cool, this will be my first build, a few of my buddies just built 223 ar15's and i was wanting to build something with a little more power, and i want it to be accurate at 100 yards at least, lol. Plus 7.62x39 ammo is dirt cheap. Does the barrell heat up bad? and what mag are you using? I wanted to build a .308 AR at first but, that gun would cost a lot more money to build and at a dollar a round, no thanks. Got any pics of your setup? thanks ken |
The bbl/BCG doesn't heat up any more than any other bbl/BCG. You will have to get caliber specific AR-15 mags (AK mags simply will not work in a regular AR lower). Lots of places have them and C Products has recently developed a 30 mag that's getting good reviews. I have one of their 10 rounders & it functions perfectly in my rifle. Mine is shooting just under 2" groups with factory ammo. I haven't reloaded for it yet so I don't know its full potential. So far it is proving to be more accurate than any of the SKSs & AKs that I've had in the past I'd post pics but I'm working in Yuma & the rifle is at home in Houston. MLG |

2 inch groups at 100 yards? Is that comparable to 5.56 in accuracy? Thanks for the info, im pretty much set on the model 1 7.62 upper now, 510 dollars, plus the 170 i spent on my lower registered is turning out to be very economical, plus the cost of 7.62 rounds, this is going to be cheap and cheap to shoot, what brand rounds are you using, any brand to stay away from? thanks ken |
From what I read in here, most guys with optics are running better groups than that in their 5.56 rigs. I will say that it doesn't group as nicely as my 6.8 upper. For ammo, I was using the cheap Win FMJ stuff. MLG |
