I'm building a 16" mid-lenth and was wondering if I need to get a carbine buffer for the A-2 stock or can I use the standard it came with.  It came of a Bushmaster if that makes any difference.

if you are using an A2 stock you should be using a rifle buffer...

As posted above, you should be using a standard buffer. If you TRY to use a carbine buffer, then your carrier will probable get jambed up by the piece of buffer retainer that it shears off, because there is nothing stopping it form going all the way into the buffer tube. That is the reason it is longer.

All kidding aside, you must always use a standard buffer with an A1 or A2 stock (unless you want to go through the trouble of adding a spacer, behind the spring, long enough to take up the extra room). But really, just use the standard buffer.
