I am in the process of completing the parts list for my first build.  I would like to use a 16" heavy barrel with a rifle  length (free float) rail system.  Thus causing me to use a low profile gas block.  I would like to use this Olympic Bull Barrel (links below).

www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=614688&t=11082005

Questions
1.  What gas block can be used with this barrel?  I called Olympic directly and was told the diameter at the gas block is .980.  I cannot seem to find any gas blocks for this diameter.  The one offered directly from Olympic does not denote if it is low profile and can be used under a rail system.

2.  Midway list's this barrel in .223 while Olympic shows this barrel to only come in 5.56, unless you move to the UltraMatch group which this barrel is obviously not, based on the price.  Could Midway be mistaken?

3.  With a diameter of .980 or greater will this barrel work with a low profile gas block under a rifle length rail system?

4.  Has anyone used this barrel or other Olympic barrels, and have you been happy with them.  I have heard rumors of Olympics inconsistent quality controls.

Thanks in advance from a rookie builder...

1.   the ID on gas block in either .750, .936, 1.100, so it's probably .936 is my guess

2.   .223 and 5.56 NATO are bassicaly the same round. I reload Both and the 5.56 sometimes needs to be trimmed down a little more, with an AR you don't need to worry most of them are Wylde chambered and with shoot both rounds. some say 5.56 cause a little more pressure, I think i would only be concerned in a bolt action riffle. AR barrels usually have 5.56 engraved on the barrel anyway.

3. I believe you can easily get the hand guard to fit over gas block on a bull barrel but i'm not sure about the one you purchesed, try asking that question on the general discussion forum.

4. I believe Oly arms barrels are wilson blanks but i propably am wrong on that, but i'm sure with hand loads it's a tack driver.

Mega Machine is my personal favorite. Very well manufactured and held to tight tolerences if your looking for a very tight fit between upper and lower they are the best IMO. I'm Currently on my second build Mega upper/lower 6.8 SPC with Ko-Tonics Barrel.
Good Luck on your build it's very addicting go slow cause you'll probably go out and buy another stripped lower.

Oly makes a decent barrel, their QC on their lowers has been pretty spotty though. I would avoid a bull barrel at all costs! They're way too friggin heavy. Especially on a 16" gun. A bull barrel is no more accurate than a pencil barrel. Let me repeat that: You will get no better accuracy out of a bull barrel vs. a pencil barrel of equal quality!

You've got a nice parts list there, don't screw it up with the wrong profile barrel. Go medium contour or lighter and, definitely, definitely, definitely go mid gas on a 16" barrel. There really is no other choice. Trust me. I've been there.
