Is it ok to dry fire a complete AR?  I, as a rule, do not, but one of my shooting buddies dry fires his regularly and says it is perfectly ok.  Oppinions for a newb, please?

Yes.  Get a buddy and get him to put a dime on your barrel while you snap in and dry fire.  Will help you get a steady hold and pull.

Perfectly OK.

The first week of USMC marksmanship training involves a LOT of dry firing.

They do it so much that I get tired of hearing it!!!!!
If you get worried you could always spend some money on "snap caps" but you will be fine dry firing!!!

Ya, I'm a USMC vet too.  I think I dry-fired my rifle 10,000 times before firing a live round.  It will NOT hurt your AR...

Dry firing is perfectly ok. It’s also part of your function check.
