I'm working on my first build ever. My problem is when I try to install my barrel, the barrel nut will only engage the upper receiver by about 1 thread. If I try to tighten it more, it feels like it is going to rip the threads off the upper receiver. It's a CMT/Stag upper and a Colt barrel nut. Does Stag and Colt use different threads for their barrel nuts? Or did I just happen to get one that was boogered up from the factory? Both the threads on the nut and the receiver look perfect and have been cleaned. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

Fresh anodizing can be rough and add some dimension to the threads. Try using some wheel bearing grease instead of CLP. This is the reason why the manual calls for tightening and loosening of the barrel nut a minimum of three times before applying the final torque. You want to ensure the threads of both the receiver and barrel nut have had a chance to wear into each other, especially on new components. |
