To tighten the handguard, do I need the YHM tool, or will the DPMS tool work?

I used a flathead screwdriver and a hammer...

I didn't want to have to order the wrench and wait for it to get to me.  I'm not what you call "patient"

Edit:  I used the flathead to tighten the locking nut.  I tightened the handguard by hand and used a scope mount to make sure the rails were lined up with the upper.

dpms tool will work for everything. I own one and it works well.

My best piece of advice would be to set the handguard slightly off center (maybe 10-11 oclock). Then tighten the locking nut with a couple good but careful taps using your hammer/tool (I guess you could try using tape around the nut in case you slipped off). Then  if you have a good grip, grab the handguard with both hands and tighten until it's aligned (I did it so tight that it was hurting my hands). One more sharp tap (opposite direction obviously) on the nut should do it.

I just did it with the DPMS tool this way, but I forgot to loosen the handguard the required 1 1/2 turns, and the anti-rotation screws wouldn't fit. It took some really solid shots to break the nut loose, and I ended up scuffing it a bit. Lesson learned but at least I know it was in there solid.

I've had great luck by installing the anti-rotation screws then using a piece of hardwood with a hammer.

I use a cheap strap wrench.  I get it closed to the index position and then torque the entire freefloat forearm into the nut.  I usually don't need to use any tool on the nut.

It may take a couple shots to get proper torque at the index position, but it only takes a few seconds.
