Well I placed my order with Jon at Anvil last Thursday and got the stuff on Tuesday.  I started with a stripped lower, LPK, and 6 position stock.  I also picked up a Magpul trigger guard and a Hogue Grip.  Using the directions on this site, everything went together without a hitch.  Now I am ready for the upper.  I know what I want, I just can't decide if I want to put it all together, or order it complete.

Let me know what you think thus far. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s306/duckcmmndr/IMG_28721024x768.jpg

That's a great start, order the exact upper components you want and put that together as well.

That looks great ! How about making the upper an M4 with an Aimpoint or Eotech for sights? That's always nice.

That is the route that I am going.  I want an "entry/tactical" look for this.  It is my first AR and that is the one that I want first.

I am probably going to go with.

Flattop Upper
14.5" M4 barrel with FH pinned
Daniel Defense, Sampson, Larue or Troy Quad Rail
Troy Flip up rear sight

I will put an Eotech on it, but will have to let the funds build back up.  There are so many choices and I want to try to get the most bang for my buck but at the same time not skimp on quality.  Which just means that I am shoping around to find the components that I want at the best price.

Do some of the vendors that advertise on here give discounts to members?

you may want to look at pete @ legal-transfers in the ee as he has a stag setup like you want w/ a 16" bbl for $650 shipped....running a arms 40l and samson star-c rail - here, thinking of picking an upper like it up myself...

Great start, duck! I just finished my first lower a few days back, Jon at AA is awesome huh? I used a Stag LPK though. How was the fit and finish on the AA kit? I'm guessing it was flawless, as is pretty much everything from AA, but I figured I'd ask.

As for that Stag setup, does anyone know if the pre-built Stag uppers have M4 feed ramps? I heard they didn't, which kinda put me off...especially since I wanted a 14.5" barrel and they only offer 16".

Still considering it, just not as heavily as before since two of the options I really wanted might not be available through Stag.

It was flawless as you guessed.  The fit was perfect and the machined surfaces that catch for the trigger/hammer to function together look like they were polished.  I was very impressed with Jon's parts.  I would and have recommended him to others.

Can't wait to get my upper going...a week or so and I will be ready to order.
