I just got my CMMG lower today. I have the lower parts kit and I'm starting to assemble everything tonight (except for the buttstock kit which I'm waiting for delivery from A.I.M. I'll be reading very closely the instructions from the sticky in this forum. Wish me luck, guys. |

Do you have the springs fully installed unto the posts? So the forged trigger itself is too wide to fit into the lower? Assuming it's not just the spring gumming up the works, can you take a caliper and measure the width of the trigger and the width of the opening in your lower? With those numbers we can hopefully diagnose your problem. I'm inclined to guess your trigger is out of spec, but who knows... |

Sorry, I meant HAMMER... I hate how you can't see anything but the last post when you are replying to threads! he he he Here is a REEEEAAALLLY silly question... Is there a pin already inserted through your hammer? Not trying to insult your intelligence, but these are confusing turkeys the first time or two. |
|
Well if the trigger fits properly I would have to guess the hammer is out of spec, but it would be helpful if you could get measurements, preferably with a caliper or micrometer, but a scale could work in a pinch... You could perhaps carefully file the ears on the hammer (evenly on both sides) to get it working for now, but if you determine it's out of spec I would call Stag and ask for a replacement. |
I don't have either of those tool. By just eyeballing it I can see it's off by just a hair. If I push hard I can get the tube of the hammer to go in less than half way but I don't want to force it. I don't know how exact this has to be so would filing it alright? I guess I'll have to call Stag. I don't understand how this could be out of spec. Do they make parts for lowers that are wider or could this be a manufacturing error?. |
|
I would try just teasing it with a file until it fits, and then carefully de-burr it and clean it thoroughly before installing it. It's too bad you don't have a caliper to try to determine if the trigger is oversized. I would still call Stag and see if they will send you a replacement. Since the trigger fits, I still maintain it MUST be the hammer that is at fault. |
| You might try to just remove the finish from the tube ends with some 3M automotive rubbing compound or something similar. Along with some good oil I'll bet this will allow the hammer to be inserted all the way. I wouldn't remove material with a file unless absolutely needed. Good luck!!!! |

LOL! Yes, I know it's backwards, and yes, it doesn't effect the fit. I was only putting it in for the pic to show what I meant about it going in just a little. I have a Dremel with some fine polishing wheels. I suppose I could try that. Normally, how much room is there between the sides of the hammer and the inside of the trigger well? |
Enough to move freely, but not shift side to side more than a few thousandths. Just shave a bit & try it....repeat as necessary. |
Didnt chinger up the bolt release boss too bad either! Things are a pain, arent they? Nice job, and glad to see you stuck with it. Front pivot pin detent, bolt release roll pin, and the trigger guard roll pin can be pains, but with patience and following the write ups here, it's very rewarding to finish your 1st. You DO realize it wont be the last, dont you? |
