Does anybody make a A3 Flat Top Style upper without forward assist?  I've seen the heavy wall  uppers without it, the type without the port cover.   I believe the Valtor & VM left side charge handle uppers  don't have it.  Also the early SP1 uppers with the carry handle.....I looking for a traditional looking A3 flat top without a Forward assist.

I've never had to use the forward assist and thought I might try a build without it, but I still want the Flat Top.

Anybody seen something like this?  Link?  Maybe a billet machined version?

Thanx K2

Les Baer makes one without a forward assist but it still has the A2 shell deflector.

RRA 9mm A3 uppers do not have a FA or the shell deflector but the gas tube hole needs to be drilled.

DPMS
Heres a quick picture from Midway. I know they have some different configs as well.

Tolerences are very tight on the upper I purchased and I cannot shoot steel cases ie: Wolf ammo.
I would need a reverse assit!

Good to hear from you, Still working in the big sand box?
Coming home soon? We NEED more AR45 goodies!

Thanx guys for the quick feed back!

I like the Les Baer upper, that’s exactly what I was looking for.  I think I may also try and convert a RR 9mm with the gas tube hole as you’ve mentioned, just to see if I like not having the brass deflector as well as no FA.
I took a look at the DPMS link and don’t like the high riser flat top, they also make a low riser but they both don’t have the dust cover I was hoping for.  I then checked the DPMS web page and found something interesting.
They call it a Triple Rail Upper Receiver

http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=1783

Not sure if you would really want to put something on the side rails of the receiver, seems anything you put there (light, laser) would be set way back or partially blocked by your hand or barrel.
Anybody use one of these Triple Rail Receivers??? Pics???
I’m curious to see how to set one up functionally!

Thanx K2

I agree... I've seen that triple rail receiver and wondered about its usefulness as well.  Seems like anything you would put on the side rails would interfere with either ejection, or the bolt catch...

I'm honestly starting to hate the sight of piccatinny rails... lol  Too many companies are putting them all over everything in order to make their stuff look more "tactical" and its getting tiresome...

With that said, make no mistake.  I LOVE DPMS products!  I just think that upper was WAAAY over the top!

Lot of luck, I've ordered SEVERAL from RRA and that was several months ago. I'm going to mill them for a gas tube and offer them for $165. The only problem..................I don't have the RRA receivers yet.

NO ONE that is MINUS the forward assist and brass deflector! As mentioned Les Baer offers a flat top without a forward assist, but it does have the brass deflector.

I have a sneaking suspicion that theirs is manufactured by Rock River Arms.

The Garrison 9mm A3 upper looks identical to the RRA A3 minus the laser engraving.

Les Baer delivery 6 weeks & RRA delivery 12 weeks.....good thing I'm NOT in a hurry!

The demand is obviously there,  how hard can it be to keep product in stock?????

You will also have to mill the cam pin relief cut.

Sun Devil Mfg makes a billet upper w/o a forward assist or brass deflector.

Several years ago some of the RRA 9mm uppers were machined for the gas tube and cam relief cut.

Since when did the RRA 9mm FT URs need the cam pin area machined? I bought about 25 in the last year and all were machined out for the cam pin. The only thing they lacked for 5.56 use was the gas tube hole.

I just received a partial shipment, the cam pin relief is already cut out. Now all I have to do is machine out the carrier key relief and the gas tube hole and X.

Again WOW, Also received the Garrison AR15/9mm Upper Receiver and a 9mm bolt in less than ten days….must be a good omen!

Both the RRA & Garrison look exactly the same, I did not take any measurements but using a Bushmaster lower receiver and checking for fit & finish, they appear the same!  The only physical differences I can see is the RRA finish is darker black and matches the Bushmaster lower in color, while the Garrison is a little bit grayer in color.  Also the painted markings on the picatinny rail are gray for the RRA while the Garrison is very bright white.    Both have the cam pin relief cut and a standard 5.56 semi auto bolt & carrier with a charge handle dropped right in place.

Even the forging mark is the same for both upper receivers.  Is that called the “Key Hole” or the “Cardinal” marking which means it came from what supplier??

The RRA 9mm upper modified with a gas tube hole and the 5.56 dust cover.   Should be an interesting look when complete without the Forward Assist & brass deflector, don’t you think?

Keyhole = Cerro Forge

Those 9mm uppers sure look nice. I'm thinking about swapping my varmint upper out for one after looking at this thread.
