and I am finding out once you get to a certain point it cost about +- $25 per ounce or more (just guessing) to get a really super lightweight.

I already have a 20" 1:7 twist govt profile lightweight barrel to build a hunter with, and from my calcs, with a...

Slightly modified cav mkII lower, lighter buffer, jp trigger/low mass hammer, alum bolt carrier, clark handguard, small gas block from YM, light rings and an
ultralight leupold 3-9x scope, I should come in right at 6# total, dry including the scope.

I already have one cut down cav MkII I plan to use on a shorty build with either a 14.5 or 16" pencil barrel. Basically same as above except probably with a doctor red dot.
Should work out to about 4#-5oz with the sight.

But I have some questions.

When I go to an aluminum carrier what buffer spring should I use ??

Maybe a wolff or tubbs flat spring ?? Not sure.

I already have a 3.2 oz carbine buffer. Is there a lighter one. I know the gas vs mass of the bolt assembly, buffer, spring have to be balanced but not quite sure what needs to be changed to what.

Any more ideas on reducing more weight ?? At this point its down to 1/2 ounce per.

An upper receiver without a forward assist will be, IIRC, ~2.7 oz. lighter than one with FA.

To run an aluminum carrier I used the MGI adjustable gas tube. You need to restrict some of the gas. As to the upper.................IF Rock River ever ships my uppers I'll be offering a slick side flat top upper.
