This is my first build.  If I get a 14.5 inch barrel with permanent flash hider and a milspec front sight block, can I do the following.

1)  remove the front sight block by sliding it over the flash hider to install a free-float tube?

2)  Will a Daniel Defense or similar free-float hand guard fit over the flash hider for installation?

Thanks for the input!

no

you need you know what rail you want, then have it installed before you pin the FH.

It can be done.

You cannot slide the factory FSB off over the FH, but you can grind and cut it in half and remove it that way.  Very carefully, so as not to mark the barrel.

Then the factory barrel nut and delta-ring will slide off over the permanent FH.  So too, will the FF tube barel nut and FF tube itself slide back on.

Finally, you need a new gas block that splits in half, so to can be assembed over the gas port.  Here is a YHM block of that type:

This stuff is done al the time, and it's not that difficult.

You need to be more specific about what in particular your requirements are.

For instance you could get a 14.5/perm hider barrel and a two part Midwest Ind. or similar free float tube and install that without removing the front sight base at all.

For that scenario you'd only need to remove the delta ring.

So specifics help.
