Sorry for such a newb question. I have a Bushmaster AR15 with a pinned POS. I'd like to put an A2 style stock on it. It looks like it just screws in and has a retaining ring. Is that accurate? Is there a special tool to remove it? If I can find a place that sells A2 stocks, will it just screw on in it's replace? Can I use the existing buffer assembly? Anything else I need to know? Thanks. It depends on the exact stock. The earlier versions were normal CAR stocks pinned in place but later in the ban they made some that looked like CAR stocks but the slipped over rifle length buffer tubes. Can you post a picture? And does it use a rifle length or carbine length buffer? |

Okay looking at that it is all one piece and basically everything needs to go. The nut at teh front of the stock (with the 4 notches on the rear needs to be loosened enough for the plate it is pressing against the rear of the lower to come loose and then the whole thing will unscrew from teh lower. You could either buy a cheap wrench or if you don't care about keeping it or selling it you can just press a pin punch or a screwdriver against the side of a notch and tap it with a hammer to get it loose. You need to be aware of two springs. The first presses the takedown pin detent and will attempt to escape to the rear when the end plate is loosened. The second presses the buffer retaining pin and will attempt to pop out the top as you unscrew the buffer tube. Once you have it off you will need a complete buttstock including buttplate, a normal rifle buffer tube, and the appropriate top screw. If you use an A2 stock you will need the spacer that goes behind the buffer tube. Basically an entire buttstock kit except that you can reuse your existing buffer and buffer spring. |
