Anyone know where to find such a thing, i cant seem to find a 80% cheaper then a 100%. i just enjoy "building" them.

http://www.ar15plus.com/ is about the best deal so far at 135.00 but you would need a jig to complete so that makes it 200+

everything that I have read points to 80% being more expensive than a 100%, I would have to think this is due to them bumping the price on them because of certain hoops that no longer have to be jumped through.

I believe Anvil Arms has lowers and uppers for $100.  This will last maybe another month.  And, maybe Spikes Tactical has them for 100 also.

Just a little FYI for ya.......

You'll spend more than $200 for a quality jig, the taps, drill bits and other accoutrements that are needed to properly complete an 80% lower - and that does not include the proper machinist's skill in order to do this job properly.

I paid $300 for all my jig and parts alone, (NO 80% lower here) but then it was considered the very best jig at the time and the guy I bought the stuff from had ruined several lowers before he got one completed, (apparently there was some that "machinist" skill stuff he lacked).

Without some serious help from an expert machinist just setting up the drilling press would have beyond my experience level - lots more to this work than some folks think, but then heck you may have these skills....

Get yourself one of them forging blanks (bottom of page)...that's the only way it's ever going to be cheaper than a completed lower. It is a little more work than drilling and tapping a few holes, though.

ETA: "The receiver can be finished by any competent machinist."
I consider myself a competent machinist, but it would take me a while to get this done without a CNC mill handy.

Try tanneryshop.com for 80% stuff.

What equipment do you have available?

If you are going to look around for forgings, be aware not all look the same.  I bought  a raw forging that looked disctintly odd, without rounded fillets where  you would expect them.

I bought a bunch from Anchor Harvey that look great and are dimensionally very similar.

I would feel ripped off if a raw forging cost more than 25 bucks.  Lot of places sell them.

I'm also looking to build on an 80% or raw forging.  I've looked at Anchor Harvey's page and can't find any listed.  I have access to a CNC machine, I'm just looking for someone to point me in the right direction for materials.

Don't spend too much on a forging:

thats where I got mine, I've done 1 0% and one billet now, much more fun than an 80%.

if you have access to cnc machines just do one out of billet - www.cncguns.com/projects/ar15lower.html and you can get the solid model from here - www.cncguns.com/downloads.html for your cam program.

then all you need is a 5x2x8 piece of 6061 or 7075 t6 Al
