| Is it possible to remove the standard A2 front site off my M&P15A and replace it with a gas block with a picatinny rail? I'm doing this to get a Troy flip up front battle site on the gas block. This may be a stoopid question, but I have no idea. |
As far as I know, the Troy front sights are all rail mounted. I don't think they make a gas block version. Most railed gas blocks are lower than the forearm rails. |
Which makes this a perfect opportunity to buy that rail set-up you wanted. |

Sure, you just drive out the taper pins in the under-side of the FSB that attach it to the barrel. Unscrew the flash-hider and slide the FSB off the end of the barrel. You'll probably end up with set screws on an aftermarket gas block, so be sure to align it correctly and screw them down tight. Then move the gas tube over to the new gas block and you're good to go. ETA: The hardest part will be moving the gas tube. You'll need a 1/16" roll pin punch (or a very small nail) to remove the gas tube roll pin. You may want to order a spare in case you lose or break it. |
