I don't have a 1/16" allen wrench, so I was going at it with a 1.5 mm allen wrench.. was working fine, then it seems the inside edges of the set screw got a little rounded and it won't go in any farther.

Does the set screw need to be 100% in for it to keep the trigger guard in place? Is there anything I can do to make the 1.5mm wrench work, or do I just need to pony up and buy a more complete set of allen wrenches?

As long as it's flush with the ears, I wouldn't worry bout it.
It's not going to back out on its own.

You could try buying an allen wrench set for $3.99 at Harbor Freight and screw it all the way in.

Wow, I had never thought I could get out of this ordeal by just going to the store and buying them. Thanks for that tip.

If your not in a Big Rush IM me your address and ill drop one in the mail for you. Also when your installing the Trigger guard install the set screw before you knock the roll pin in. Its makes the set screw go in much easier. On another note that little Allen wrench may be hard to find locally, and if the set screw is rounded out pretty good the proper size wont do you much good anyways. Some times you can use a Torx bit in place of an Allen wrench if the screw head is stripped out.

When ever I install the trigger guard roll pin I Smash them slightly with a pair of pliers to make them go in a little easier. Its takes some of the Tension away. Although you don't want to close the gap in the roll pin completely. And I also wet them down with some CLP.

I agree but if its already messed up the torx bit is a good option.

if you want a really good 1/16 allen wrench go to the local hobby shop .... not hobby lobby but somewhere that sells real R/C cars .... not the junk at walmart or radio shack.  Ive got a Dynamite 1/16 allen wrench with a solid billet handle and the shank/tip is replaceable

Thank god for all my R/C stuff that I have laying around from over the years

If you bugger the screw most hardware stores w/ the screw racks will have replacements. Chances are if you dont have a 1/16" you probably dont have a 7/64" or a 9/64" either which are essential for many AR-tasks :D Buy an $8 set of allen wrenches that will last you the rest of your life.

In my experience, the screw never completely lines up and it has to go in a bit sideways, ESPECIALLY on POF lowers, where you have to pound the **** trigger guard in :D

if I ever need a certain size of allen wrench i just go to ace hardware they have containers with all the differnt sizes of wrenches and you can just buy the ones you want. I dont know if you have a nice ace by you but. in all reality most allen wrench sets should come with the 1/16

There's one right down the road.. I'll look into that, thanks.

ETA: Ace had one, $0.35. The trigger guard is now properly installed.. thanks again
