| I remember seeing on some website a lower reciever that was made out of stamped sheet metal instead of forged metal. This lower reciever had to be bolted together. Does anyone know about these and can you direct me on where I can get one? |
| Maybe you're thinking of an AK receiver. Cant say I've ever seen or heard of an AR lower flat. There are lowers from 0% to 80% available which require you to drill out areas, but I just dont think an AR lower would work as a flat. There's just too many levels and you'd never be able to get everything to line up to weld together. Definitely more trouble than it'd be worth. Milling one out might be kinda fun if you're into all that and have a high quality drill press already. If you're only doing it to get around the background check, good luck. |
Wow. Thats, um, interesting looking. I think I'd be afraid to shoot anything mounted to that though... |

The closet thing I can think of in the form a sheet metal AR is the AR-180 |

There's very little firing stress on an AR lower, except for the pivot-pin holes, so as long as the holes are in the right places, the internal spaces are sufficient, and it's made of good material, there's no reason it shouldn't work. Admittedly it'll be butt-ugly, and there's always the concern about it working itself apart under firing. I now have this mental image of an upper, buffer and stock, attached to this seamless-but-for-bolt-and-pin-holes shiny aluminum cube....
