I'm a longtime lurker and sometime poster
Based on what I’ve read on this forum I have built 2 16” M4geries  that I’m very happy with.  I now need some build advice for my CAV-Aid lower.  Since I’m dealing with a fixed stock, I’m planning to build it with a 20 inch (maybe 18” midlength) SPR-ish flattop upper with YHM smooth freefloat HGs.  Goal is to build a simple, durable rifle mechanically capable of sub MOA accuracy with varmint grade ammo.  I basically want a middle weight varmint rifle that is also usable for social purposes.  Upper weight limit being about 8.5 pounds with irons and before mounting optics  I’m looking to contain costs but purchase durable components that will meet my needs.  To do so, I would appreciate your input and any info on sources for the following parts.  I would prefer buying a barreled upper if possible, but can assemble my own if needed to get an optimum combination of parts.

1.  I need recommendations on bolts/carriers-
I know all are not created equal- many bolts and some carriers are prone to breakage.
Many here swear by swear by RRA lower parts kits- are their bolts and carriers OK? If a brand has just an assembly issue like staking a gas key, I have the tools and knowledge to make it right but if there are metallurgical and machining QC issues, I don’t want to fool with it. What other bolts/carriers are milspec durable and somewhat economical?

2.  Barrel recommendations-
I am looking for a midweight to SPR weight barrel with no muzzle threads that is between .750 to .850 behind the FSB from one of the better midgrade makers like Wilson.. Anything heavier will probably be too front heavy on the Cav lower.  A GI/m16a2 profile has all the weight in the wrong places, and I’m pretty sure the national match profile barrel will be a tad too heavy.  I also want a picatinny/weaver rail on the FSB for folding BUIS. If possible, I’d like to keep the price below $300 with gas block installed.
In the spirit of accuracy/durability, I am leaning towards stainless, as it is corrosion resistant like chrome lined but has better accuracy. How much accuracy will I be losing if I get a chrome barrel instead of a stainless?  I am also leaning toward a .223 Wylde chamber – how much more accurate is a Wylde than a 5.56 chamber?
Given all of the above, my leading candidate is a 20”Rock River Arms stainless national match barrel from ADCO and have them turn it down to about .750” behind the gas block.  Anyone have any better / other suggestions?

3. Upper recommendations-
Are there any uppers to specifically avoid?
Is there any real advantage to correctly executed M4 feed ramps over rifle feed ramps?

thanks!

1.) BCM Bolt Carier Group from bravo co.
or
a Young Mfg. Auto Group or National Match from Global Tactical Supply
or
ADCO has RRA for $10 less than Bravo co.

2.) Sounds like the one from ADCO is the way to go. I'd go with 5.56 chamber for more reliability but that's just me, YOMV.

3.) Armalite has some blem uppers on their web site or get a White Oak from ADCO. I'd skip the M4 cuts, no use for them.

4.) BrightFlashLights some great deals on YHM goods.

thanks Daubs- looks like you pretty much covered most of my questions and then some.

I actually think an 18" SPR barrel may fit my needs even better- I'm only giving up 60-70 FPS from a 20" barrel.  Are White Oak Arms barrels any good? I believe I saw their stainless 18" SPR barrel for under $250.

thanks again
